چکیده

Bone is a composite biomaterial mainly composed of packed collagen fibres and nano-sized hydroxylapatite (HA) crystals. Quantitative measurements of bone mine ral composition can provide insights into the bone mine ral formation in health and disease . Bone mineral characteristics such as crystal lini ty, carbonate and phosphate mineral content may vary as a function of age, sex, diet, bone location or pathological state of organisms. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic is well suited to evaluate the variations in the chemical composition and mineralogy in bone.

Lower Bone Mineral Density is Associated with Intertrochanteric Hip Fracture

Background: A better understanding of how bone mineral density and vitamin D levels are associated with femoralneck and intertrochanteric hip fractures may help inform healthcare providers. We asked: 1) In patients age ≥ 55 years,is there a difference in quantitative ultrasound of the heel (QUS) t-score between patients with fractures of the femoralneck and those with fractures of the intertroc...

FTIR-I compositional mapping of the cartilage-to-bone interface as a function of tissue region and age.

Soft tissue-to-bone transitions, such as the osteochondral interface, are complex junctions that connect multiple tissue types and are critical for musculoskeletal function. The osteochondral interface enables pressurization of articular cartilage, facilitates load transfer between cartilage and bone, and serves as a barrier between these two distinct tissues. Presently, there is a lack of quan...

Evaluation of composition and mineral structure of callus tissue in rat femoral fracture.

Callus formation is a critical step for successful fracture healing. Little is known about the molecular composition and mineral structure of the newly formed tissue in the callus. The aim was to evaluate the feasibility of small angle x-ray scattering (SAXS) to assess mineral structure of callus and cortical bone and if it could provide complementary information with the compositional analyses...

Effects of unilateral sciatic neurectomy on growing rat femur as assessed by peripheral quantitative computed tomography, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and bending test.

We studied the effects of unilateral sciatic neurectomy (USN) on the development of the femoral shaft in the 30 growing Wistar-derived rats aged 5 weeks. Rats were allocated to three groups. One of these was immediately used for measurements, and the remaining 2 groups underwent USN of internal control. Specimens obtained from each group were divided into 2 subgroups: left femurs of each group ...
